Pumps are the core of all high-pressure and low-pressure systems in car washes. By maintaining the pump with fresh engine oil, the performance and life of the pump can be maximized.

How often should I drain the crankcase oil from the car wash pump?

The following are some general guidelines, please contact your pump manufacturer to find out your brand and model specifications:

• For standard piston pumps and plunger pumps, the oil should be changed after the first 50 hours and every three months or 500 hours thereafter.

• For R series RAM pumps, the oil should be changed after the first 20 hours and every 3000 hours thereafter.

How do I change the oil in the pump?

All pumps will be equipped with crankcase oil drain plugs or remote oil drain options provided by the manufacturer. Drain the oil in the crankcase and replace the plug. The amount of oil required to refill the crankcase will vary depending on the size of the pump. The crankcase oil volume of each pump model is shown in the pump data sheet. Always use the oil specified by the pump manufacturer to make a specific pump brand and model, otherwise it may shorten the life of the pump and lose the manufacturer's warranty.

On most pumps with a built-in bubble meter (red dot is the filling level) or dipstick, the oil level can also be verified. When the pump is in a horizontal maintenance state, the oil level should be checked. Overfilling of oil will cause oil to spill from the filler cap. Insufficient filling can cause insufficient lubrication in the crosshead area of the pump and cause drive-end failure.
